Makar Sankranti Celebration at GTPS
Golden Trumpet Public School celebrated the auspicious festival of Makar Sankranti with great joy and enthusiasm on 13th January 2026 (Tuesday) within the school premises. The celebration aimed to familiarize students with India’s rich cultural heritage.
The programme began with a brief introduction by Tanya Ma’am, explaining the importance of Makar Sankranti, marking the transition of the Sun into the onset of longer days. Students were told about the festival being celebrated across India under different names such as Pongal, Lohri, and Bihu.
The students came dressed in traditional attire, adding colour and vibrancy to the celebration. Pre-Nursery students represented the state of West Bengal and danced to the Rabindra Sangeet “Poush toder dak diyechhe”. While Nursery students performed a Bihu dance, representing the state of Assam, Preparatory students performed a Lohri dance, celebrating the harvest festival of Punjab. The students of Class I represented the state of Tamil Nadu and performed a Pongal dance.
The speech of Principal Sir conveyed the message of unity in diversity, positivity, and thankfulness. Madam Chandra Biswas explained to the students the significance of harvest festivals in India. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
The event helped students understand the cultural values and traditions associated with Makar Sankranti while making learning joyful and memorable.
The celebration was a great success and was enjoyed by all.
